One of my college roommates died today. She was best friends with my friend Allison since high school…maybe earlier. She has had cancer for 12 years. I am so sad about this. Even though it was expected at some point. It’s still very sad.
She told Allison last week that besides having her children, her most fun time in her life was the year we all lived together. And she was right. That year, our sophmore year of college was just the best. There were six of us living in a three bedroom apartment and while we had plenty of fights and personality conflicts, it was still so fun.
I was just looking through old photos and wishing I could go back in time and relive that knowing what I know now and how much I would cherish that time I had with those girls. Gina definitely added some sass and spice to our little apartment. She wanted so badly to be different and edgy. I remember thinking she was SO out there. But looking back, she really wasn’t… she just wanted to be.
We would all take turns cooking and Gina’s idea of cooking for all of us was to take all of the leftovers in the fridge and mix them in a pot and serve it to us. She might have only done that once. But I remember it well and how grossed out I was. What a funny thing to do. I haven’t thought about that until just right now.
Gina brought a lot to our apartment and I am grateful for the spunk she had the short time I lived with her. These are a few images from those times.
