San Diego’s Children’s museum… and a little photography

My friend Colleen suggested that we take all the kids to the new Children’s museum. The boys were totally resistant. They wanted to know exactly what was going to be there. We packed up and headed on over despite the reluctance. I didn’t know what to expect. There use to be a children’s museum when the boys were little and we went once. I don’t remember it being much of anything back then.

Well, this new one is AWESOME. The architecture of the place was very hip and cool. But the best part (for me) was the light in this place. I was so happy I brought my camera and a good lens. I was in heaven. Part of the place is outside on decks and then individual open rooms for other things. Everyone had fun.

The coolest thing… I asked about photographing families there and they gave me the contact to get it set up and it isn’t a big deal at all. It would be SO fun to photograph a family playing around. So many cool things and interesting looks. So if you are looking for something different for your family photographs, this the place we should go.

On to our pictures. It started off with painting the bug and clay. Slater is a two handed painter. One paint brush just doesn’t cut it.

Painting hands is fun too. Someone was a total mess by the time we finished with our first thing.

We got there just in time for the instructions for making clay cars. The boys thought it was going to dumb I think but they totally got into it. Tucker was very proud of his bug.

Dallon started off making a cool car with hollowed out windows but something went wrong and her balled up all his clay and started again… to create the ‘buffalo car’.

Slater loved the clay too and stayed here for quite a long time for a two year old… his time ended when throwing the clay as high up into the air as he could and it landed on all the nearby people started.

Then we moved over to this free for all room with a bunch of cushions that looked like it was supposed to make a building. The boys were rowdy boys and Slater was right there with them (but this is Tucker below).

We had heard about this ‘matress room’ and had to check it out. The waiting area is right next to all these graffiti climbing walls. We have some pretty great pictures here… the light was so awesome!

And now onto the most favorite place of my kids. The Mattress Room.

Then onto a balcony for some bubble fun

and they had this great room with more fabulous light with these letters all over the table.

I have a ton of images that I totally love. We went outside to this enclosed playground after and the boys climbed for awhile. I am looking forward to going back and I think the boys are too.

That place looks awesome! They don’t have anything like that around here. Looks like everyone had a blast, and you captured some great shots for them.
