the Kleege family, San Diego Urban Family Photographer

The Kleege’s have been friends for a long time.  Even though this session looks like a real session, we still have yet to do a real, ” Session with Alison” type of session.  I don’t count 30 min as a real session.  Or last year’s 10 minutes because there was some game about to happen or something or other that is totally not important to me whatsoever because photo sessions always come first…  i digress (one of my favorite things Colleen says).

There is very little that can trip me up on a photography shoot.  Babies, rain,  toddlers, kids who don’t want to be photographed, cheese, etc…  I’m just fine with those things.  But the one thing that just makes my mind almost turn to mush is losing light and feeling strapped for time.  I just kind of panic and do stupid things.  Colleen and I actually drove around downtown a few days before looking for some new spots.  We found some that I really wanted to try.  However, the day of our session, we left her house a bit late and then got stuck at a light with trolley traffic for what felt like 10 minutes.  And then I was worried about parking so we just parked and it felt dark so I just started shooting where I was… in the darkest side of the street with the stupidest stucco building right behind us.  And I kind of rushed through the whole thing on a half a brain.

When I left our little dark spot of downtown and rounded the corner… light, metal corrugated walls, life for that matter… JUST around the corner.   I was so bummed. I didn’t know if we got anything good, shutter was slow and my vision for the session came up short.

Or so I thought.  The photos below are just a small smattering of my favorites.  Now it could be that I really love this family and am a little biased because I can see their personalities shine through in these photos but I think we did pretty good.  And seriously… next year or whenever we do another shoot, it’s going to be a real live, full time to extra time, Alison Photoshoot!

Expectations weren’t necessary with this group.  Thanks for bringing the magic, Kleege family!

Oh wow. Those photos are beautiful! My favorite is the first one. It makes me think of my family- that little girl must be my little sister! She was always contrary until she decided she was good and ready. This family will treasure these pics!
