I mentioned that my dad got married two weeks ago and I still have photos to show from the wedding. But the few weeks before the wedding, we put together a wall gallery for their stairway area. Dawn and my dad have been together for eight years. My boys were 3 and 5. Dawn has a neice and nephew on her side who both have kids and my sister Nicole has her daughter and then my three boys. One side of the stairway needed to be Dawn’s family and the other wall, my family. And they didn’t want the traditional stair-stepping structure that is typical of wall galleries along the stairs.
These prints are all done on 1/4″ white foam board and hung with Command, Velcro strips. I spaced the images 2″ apart from each other on all sides. Not dealing with frames and nails made it so much easier and they can easily be changed out with updated images. The walls for this display are really high with tall windows above the images. The sizes range from 20×24’s down to 8×12’s. The long skinny ones are 10×30’s and 10×20’s.
It’s really important when ordering images to know what size area you are considering. You may never hang the pictures up if you ordered a random smattering of 8×10’s and 11×14’s or bought frames to put the images in before you even had the images (I am guilty of this… i have a lot of random frames tucked away over here). While a 20×24 sounds enormous, it really isn’t. And when you have large prints that are thought out and placed with smaller prints in a preplanned design, the finished product comes together beautifully.
I love putting together custom wall displays for my clients. It’s especially helpful when I can see the space as well either through a photo or in person. There are just so many great combinations that can be put together.
Ok… here are the images from my dad’s stairway.
