back from WPPI

Just got back from Vegas from WPPI which is a Wedding and Portrait photography convention.  I took a bunch of classes, searched for new product, and hung out with my friends, Traci and Shannon (and got to see Kim again who I haven’t seen in like 5 years).  Traci set up a trash the dress wedding shoot for us the day we got there… tons of photos from that.  And then we did a little impromptu shoot of the three of us for fun.  For now, here is one of the three of us.

Thanks for an awesome time, girls.  It wouldn’t have been the same without you!

Aubri ~ San Diego Photographer, Encinitas

Aubri has been doing a few fitness modeling gigs and needed some images to send out.  We did some fitness and some fashion.  I tend to like the fashion so I hope we have enough fitness.  Regardless, we have tons and tons of fabulous shots. It would be impossible not to but here are a few standouts.  Thanks for a fun, off my beaten path, shoot.  I loved it!fitness model

jay reilly lighting workshop

On Friday, I spent the day in Oceanside at a lighting workshop.  Jay did some family portraits for us in November which I still need to share (our Christmas card that I posted was that picture).  I have been dying to learn more about lighting.  I really need to see and do rather than hear and read.  It was a fantastic workshop.  It was all hands on.  His brother Andrew joined him in teaching us and it was just a great learning day.  I can’t thank either of them enough for how much they shared and put up with my constant same question of which way my F-stop went for darker or lighter… I just couldn’t think there on the spot:P

They set up some fantastic models for us to work with and a bunch of different lighting equipment which was exactly what I needed because I am not totally sure what I want to get.  So the images below have some minor adjustments if any (mainly because I don’t have time right now and they actually look pretty good just as they are).  These are some of my favorites.

All three of these are lit with studio lights… including the last one

I couldn’t figure out who Joy reminded me of until I was looking at my images at home.  Doesn’t she  look just like Elizabeth Hurley?

We had to do some figuring stuff out on our own and it really is much harder to figure out than it looks.

the Vaage kids and cousins ~ San Diego, Coronado family photography

It’s been a little quiet around here… on my blog anyway. Last weekend I spent with my friend Allison editing photos that I took in Idaho at the beginning of October for her NAHA entries. I had a shoot booked that Sunday but it was so windy, we had to move it to this past Sunday (sneak peek will be on its way in a few days). But now things are back on track and plenty of shoots coming up.

Ok, so this shoot was two sets of siblings that are cousins. The older two came into town just for the shoot. We made our way to the beach taking advantage of curbs and alleys, even the park and then finally the beach. It was really fun. It might have been a little embarrassing for them in the beginning but they all embraced it by the end. I love photographing teens (and 20 somethings). So many fun things we can do. And we did a lot of them.

the Almendariz family ~ San Diego Family Beach Photography

This shoot started off a little rocky. Both kids had colds and Paolo really wasn’t feeling that great. He kept telling me to take pictures of other things and NOT him… in a very quiet voice. But we had weather and scenery on our side and really, the shoot turned out semi spectacular. Lola was having a ball though as I think she always does wherever she goes. There was sand, and water and stairs… I don’t think it could really get better for her.

Onto the sneak peek:

I usually end with my silhouette shot but this one is too striking to be at the end

a little different processing on this one but I think it adds a nice look to the image and Lola looks so cute trying to make a getawayfamily photography

I barely caught this one while photographing Lola… so glad I did. I think Paolo used all the energy he had to do it:)

I know this one breaks all kinds of rules but I just don’t think it would be as interesting without the crazy tilt
