San Diego Children’s Photographer | cute kids in La Jolla

It’s not very often that I photograph just the kids.  It’s very different in some ways to photographing the family.  These two were cute as ever.  Big brother was so great and helpful with his sister.  And amazingly, we have some great ones of her despite her fake sleeping a good lot of the time.  It was actually quite cute but she was serious about not performing.   Two year olds definitely have a mind of their own.  I love so many of these sweet kids.  We were concentrating on the close ups and I think the mission was a success:)

San Diego Family Beach Photographer | The Henne Family, Coronado

We had a beautiful evening down in Coronado for our photo session.  We decided to do part of the shoot at the house they were vacationing at and the other part at the beach with a little Hotel Del in the background (well, just for a few).

I love love love this first one

San Diego Family Photographer | the Walton family… at home

Joe and I met Neal and Tracey soon after we moved to Mission Beach when we were first married.   We were both newlywed couples without kids.  I changed that and got pregnant with Tucker a few months after we met.  But Tracey and I were pregnant together for my second and her first.

Last year, they had their fifth baby.  A darling little girl.  When she was just a few months old, she suffered a brain aneurysm and ended up finding out that their baby had a brain tumor. They have been through a lot this last year.  More than I could ever imagine.  I have been wanting to give them a family photo shoot for months and we finally did it.

It was so fun to see them all and to play with their kids (who loved being in front of the camera).  I haven’t done a family session at someone’s home in so long it seems and it just reminded me how much I love them.  Everyone comfortable at home… it’s my favorite setting.

So of course I have tons of favorites.  I really love the black and whites.  Some shoots I am drawn to the color images and some I just love those black and whites.

This shot was supposed to be of just Julia.   But a certain younger brother and sister were dying to be in her shots.  This one just cracks me up.

San Diego Child & Family Photography | La Jolla, day 2

The second day of photo sessions was down on the beach just north of Wind and Sea in La Jolla.  It was a cold and kind of wet weekend but just dry enough and bright enough for perfect beach photos.  I actually do not like sunny days for photo shoots at the beach.   Overcast with a glow is ideal.  So this set of sessions was a little different than Saturday’s.  I photographed a couple of families, one mom who’s son couldn’t make it decided to come herself which is such and awesome idea (every mom should have great images of herself), a birthday boy, a family who was going to the hospital the next day to have their second little boy (congratulations you guys), and some darn cute kids.

I also couldn’t pick just one so there are at least two from each session.  I love love love location shooting.  So I definitely felt more in my element on the beach. But I think both sessions went pretty great.  Here’s day two:

the Keiser family ~ San Diego Family Photography, mission beach

The weather was calling for rain all day and even thunderstorms… which quite honestly, I didn’t buy at all.  We ended up with partly cloudy skies, of course:)  But I did hear it rained all night in North County with thunder and lightning.  That would have been fun.  This family was in town on vacation and told me I could come to their house in Nebraska if I wanted some good storms.  I would so love that:)

Onto this session.  We had a lot of fun.  Mom, Dad, and their six kids ranging in age from 13-8 mos.  We decided to walk from their place in N. Mission up to the pier and stop along the way.   The kids were great… it was a long shoot but I think breaking it up and playing on the boardwalk wall and the lifeguard tower and the pier helped.  I really could have photographed them for hours… but I don’t think the kids were going to have anything to do with that plan:P

So let’s bring out the photos.  I have TONS of favorites… but I kind of always do so here are 16 that I love.

And to the Keiser family…. thank you so much for inviting me along to photograph your darling and fun family.  I hope you all make it back to So. Cal. again someday:)
